In order to copy/back-up your DVDs you will need a DVD writer on your computer and some DVD back up software. Below we recommend the three easiest you use and most reliable software packages for this purpose.

Please note that it is illegal to make copies of movies, games, software or any other files other than for the purpose of backing up something that you have purchased.
DVD X Copy is a new transcoding tool to allow single-DVD-R-backups of DVD-9 movies. DVD X Copy split DVD-9 movies on two DVD-Rs and preserved the original quality perfectly. DVD X Copy XPRESS squeezes down the size of the video so that the movie can be fitted on one DVD±R(W) disc. And it does it faster and better than any software before!
DVD 2 One is probably the easiest and fastest method available for copying any DVD-9 movie (movie that takes more than 4.36GB of space and doesn't fit directly on one DVD-R) to a single recordable DVD disc (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R or DVD+RW) using the super-fast tool called DVD2One.
CloneDVD is a software to backup your existing DVD collection to DVD-R/RW or DVD+R/RW. You can not only copy your DVD collection to blank DVD discs, but also copy DVDs to hard disk folders. You can also output ISO image files of your DVDs.
